Publication Ethics

The Transcultural Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences has taken the highest care to ensure high ethical and professional standards by adhering to the COPE Code of Conduct for Journal Publishers and the COPE Code of Conduct for Journal Editors. Thus, TJHSS has adopted comprehensive publication ethics and publication malpractice in compliance with  COPE guidelines, as described in details below.

TJHSS’ policies on authorship and contributorship:

Authors should not submit the same article simultaneously to more than one journal at a time. They must, also, certify that the manuscript has not been published elsewhere. Moreover, authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the reported study. All those who have made significant contributions should be listed as co-authors. Furthermore, the corresponding author with the journal should ensure that all appropriate co-authors are included in the author list of the manuscript, and that there is a full consensus of all co-authors in approving the final version of the paper and its submission for publication. Finally, when an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in his/her own published work, it is the author’s obligation to promptly notify the journal editors and cooperate with them to retract or correct the manuscript.

TJHSS’ policies on handling complaints and appeals.

TJHSS follow the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines on appeals to the Journal’s decisions and complaints about the TJHSS’ editorial management of the peer-review process. In case an author wants to appeal the journal’s decision, he/she must submit an appeal letter to the journal’s online editorial office. This letter must be addressed to the editor (hussein.hamouda@buc.edu.eg)  and clearly explain the basis for an appeal explaining the reasons of disagreeing with the decision by providing the following: (1) specific responses to any of the editor’s and/or reviewers’ comments that contributed to the reject decision; (2) any new information or data that he/she would like the journal to take into consideration; (3) evidence if he/she believes a reviewer has made technical errors in their assessment of his/her manuscript.

Journal policies on conflicts of interest / competing interests:

It may arise for the authors of an article submitted to TJHSS when they have a conflict or a financial interest that may influence, probably without their knowing, their interpretation of their results or those of others. That is why authors should disclose financial or other conflicts of interest that might influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript. If there are interests that the reasonable reader might feel have affected your research, you may wish to declare them.

Journal policies on data sharing and reproducibility:

TJHSS strongly encourages authors to include as supplementary material data sets and code that demonstrate the results shown in their final article. Authors will be further encouraged to cite any data referenced in their paper. Whether this has been created by the author or someone else, cited data sets should be included in the reference list. Finally, authors will be encouraged to include a data availability statement. After publication, authors are free to share their work with the obligation to mention the fact that has been first published in TJHSS.

Journal’s policy on ethical oversight:

TJHSS follows closely the Committee on Publication Ethics (СОРE) definition, of Ethical oversight, namely “Ethical oversight should include, but is not limited to, policies on consent to publication, publication on vulnerable populations, ethical conduct of research using animals, ethical conduct of research using human subjects, handling confidential data and of business/marketing practices”. Based on this definition, the editorial staff of TJHSS works under the issue of observing these ethical principles.

Journal’s policy on intellectual property:

TJHSS requires authors to make their article open access under one of Egyptian Knowledge Bank (EKB) in order to meet the terms of open access publication and ensure the widest possible dissemination. Therefore, upon acceptance of the papers, the editor will contact the authors to provide a copyright transfer agreement that should be signed originally by the corresponding author and uploaded in the online system. The authors also have the right to use all or part of this paper for non-commercial activities such as lectures. For the other purpose, the authors shall contact the editorial office to get permission. Moreover, the journal is strictly against any unethical act of copying or plagiarism in any form. All manuscripts submitted for publication to journal are cross-checked for plagiarism using iThenticate software. Manuscripts found to be plagiarized during primary stages of review are out-rightly rejected and not considered for publication in the journal. In case a manuscript is found to be plagiarized after publication, the Editor-in-Chief will conduct preliminary investigation, may be with the help of a suitable committee constituted for the purpose. If the manuscript is found to be plagiarized beyond the acceptable limits, the journal will contact the author’s Institute / College / University and Funding Agency, if any. Upon determination of the extent of plagiarism, the paper may also be formally retracted.

Journal’s options for post-publication discussions and corrections:

TJHSS allows post publication discussions and corrections through letters to the editor at hussein.hamouda@buc.edu.eg. Sometimes after an article has been published it may be necessary to make a change to the published article. If any readers have a concern on any articles published, they can submit letter to editor on the articles. If there founds any errors or mistakes in the article, it can be corrected through errata, corrigenda, or retraction. This will be done after careful consideration by the Editor to ensure any necessary changes are made in accordance with guidance from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Any necessary changes will be accompanied with a post-publication notice which will be permanently linked to the original article so that readers will be fully informed of any necessary changes. This can be in the form of a Correction notice, an Expression of Concern, a Retraction and in rare circumstances a Removal.
